Grain Belt Express clears another legal hurdle with Missouri appeals court ruling

Chariton County cannot block construction of the Grain Belt Express electric transmission line by refusing permission to cross county roads, the Missouri Western District Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday. The county can establish rules for how the transmission line crosses its roads, the court ruled as it modified a trial court decision that said the county could make no regulations at all.

Invenergy proposes width reduction of corridor Invenergy, the owner of the Grain Belt Express transmission line, which is separate from the NIETC, submitted supplemental comments to the Department of Energy (DOE), proposing a significant reduction in the corridor’s width – from 5 miles to 0.5 miles – a recommendation that would support just one transmission line in the corridor, which would be theirs.

Missouri’s hometown electric utilities have reaffirmed their support of the Grain Belt Express transmission project (Grain Belt). A resolution affirming continued support of the project was passed March 9 by the MPUA Board of Directors that represents 120 hometown utility members.
